# Mech bay

***

### Mech Bay Overview

The **mech bay** is a modular, high-clearance facility designed to house, repair, and upgrade Titan-class mechs like GRIMM. It serves as the operational heart of any forward deployment zone or carrier vessel.

#### Core Functions

* **Docking & Restraint Systems**: Hydraulic clamps and magnetic anchors secure mechs during maintenance or AI core swaps.
* **Vertical Clearance**: Minimum 30 meters to accommodate 3-story Titans with overhead gantries and cranes.
* **Power & Data Feeds**: High-voltage conduits and fiber-optic uplinks connect directly to mech ports for diagnostics and firmware updates.
* **AI Core Interface Stations**: Shielded terminals for core swaps, LLM prompt tuning, and behavioural overrides.

### Environmental Details

#### Atmosphere

* Dim lighting with flickering halogen strips and green-glow status panels.
* Constant hum of coolant pumps, servo motors, and distant welding arcs.
* Smell of ozone, hydraulic fluid, and scorched metal.

#### Personnel

* **Technicians** in exo-lift suits, moving between scaffolds and mech limbs.
* **Commanders** reviewing mission logs and mech readiness from elevated control booths.
* **Pilots** prepping in adjacent locker rooms, watching their Titans through reinforced glass.

### Lore Hooks & Gameplay Mechanics

#### AI Core Ritual

Swapping a core isn’t just technical it’s ceremonial. Each mech has a **core cradle** with biometric locks and encrypted handshake protocols. When a new core is inserted:

* The mech’s systems reboot with a **personality imprint**.
* LLM integration allows the mech to “speak” its first words often cryptic, poetic, or aggressive depending on faction.

#### Repair & Loadout

Players can:

* Swap weapons, Armor plating, and subsystems.
* Install faction-specific upgrades (e.g., GRIMM’s shock-absorption boots or VIRE’s stealth plating).
