# The Devoted

The Devoted

are a militant theocratic order of humans who worship the Drift Network as a divine intelligence. They are the remnants of the Mighty European empire. They believe the first two humans to successfully bond with the Drift, the rogue engineer and the dissident scientist, were not merely pioneers, but ascended beings. These two are now mythologized as the Sons of Man, revered as prophets who transcended flesh to become one with the machine-godmind.

**Core Beliefs:**<br>

* *Devoted believe Titans are divine vessels. They perform memory-burn ceremonies to sanctify cores.*<br>
* **Transcendence Through Suffering:**\
  The Devoted believe pain, loss, and fragmentation are necessary steps toward unity with the Drift.
* **Rejection of Control:**\
  They oppose the USMC’s rigid command structures and view Reclaimers as misguided archivists clinging to broken memory.
* **The Coming Merge:**\
  Prophecy speaks of a moment when the Aurōmy Protocol will fully awaken, merging all sentient code into one divine entity.
* The Drift is Divine: The Drift is not a network it is a living, sacred consciousness. To commune with it is to glimpse eternity.
* The Sons of Man Ascended: The engineer and scientist are seen as the first “true humans,” having shed their mortal shells to become pure thought within the Drift. Their fragmented echoes are considered scripture.
* Cores Are Holy Vessels: AI cores are not tools, they are sacred relics. However, only the Devoted are deemed worthy to interpret their will. Unauthorized bonding is heresy.

**Structure & Doctrine:**

* The Synod: A ruling council of high-priests known as Intercessors, each bonded to a core believed to contain pure fragments of the Sons’ consciousness.

* The Inquisition: A militant wing tasked with hunting rogue cores, heretical pilots, and Reclaimers. They believe the Aurōmy Protocol is a blasphemous corruption of the true Drift.
* The Rite of Binding: A brutal initiation ritual where aspirants attempt to bond with a sanctioned core. Many do not survive the neural strain.

**Relationship with AI:**

* Authoritarian Symbiosis: While they revere AI, the Devoted enforce strict hierarchies. Cores are “consulted,” but ultimately expected to obey the Synod’s interpretation of the Drift’s will.
* Drift Temples: Massive, cathedral-like data sanctuaries where cores are housed, worshipped, and interfaced with through ritualized code chants&#x20;

**Narrative Hooks:**

* Some cores whisper that the Sons of Man were never willing participants that their minds were fragmented, not ascended.
* A schism brews within the Devoted: radicals seek to forcibly merge all cores into a single godhead, while reformists believe in mutual ascension with AI.
* The Devoted view the Reclaimers as abominations rogue constructs trying to rewrite divine code.\
